- Pollution
- School is where all the kids go. Most kids at Kennedy come by car to school. People from ages 5-19 make up about 16% of Cupertino’s population. Since most people drive to school it adds up to a lot of greenhouse gas emissions.
- Physical Inactivity
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that of children ages 9 to 13 years:
- 62 percent do not participate in any organized physical activity.
- 23 percent do not engage in any free-time physical activity outside of school hours.
- In the last twenty years obesity rates have more than doubled among children.

I agree with this post. Biking will help a lot with getting in daily exercise. A large population of kids our age get to school in cars. A common reason for this is the lack of time. Schools usually start between 7:30 and 8:30, depending on which school you go to. I Monta Vista and Kennedy start early in the morning at 7:30. A lot of people, however, do not want to bike because they feel that they are late to school. Therefore, they resort to driving as a way to avoid tardies.
ReplyDeleteI think that if you implement biking, it will cause a huge change in general traffic around schools. However, I have come up with a couple of questions. Will this plan be implemented for schools around each other? For example Monta Vista High school and Kennedy Middle school. Also, since this website has been centered a little around Kennedy, will it be implemented around schools such as Lawson, Hyde, Cupertino, and Miller ( of which are also in our district)? If so, how will you coordinate with such a large population of kids that attend both schools? How will you convince them that this is a good plan, and it will benefit our society. Leading off of this, how will you convince all the lazy kids that refuse to bike let alone walk to or from school.
overall, i think this is a good plan, it just needs some tweaking. (:
